Campaign Platform

Now, more than ever, we need a strong leader to represent us in the state legislature! Someone who shares our values and isn't afraid to tackle the biggest problems we encounter in our daily lives. Together, we've created a real plan to move our community and state forward.

Chris Vaughn will work hard for us!

As our new State Representative, Chris Vaughn will fight to:

Provide Access to Affordable Health Care and Prescription Drugs:

  • Chris will fight for increased funding at the state level for Grady Memorial Hospital. Born at Grady, Chris understands the importance of maintaining healthcare institutions like Grady.
  • Chris Vaughn will push our state government to create a statewide health insurance pool in which individuals and small businesses can participate at a substantially lower cost than they could obtain on their own.
  •  Chris will also work to make prescription drugs less expensive and more readily available by using the state's purchasing power to negotiate price breaks on widely-prescribed drugs.

Healthy Moms & Healthy Babies:

  • Chris Vaughn will fight to restore 48,000 children to the Children's Health Insurance Program, and 30,000 women to pre-natal care services for healthier babies, thereby reducing premiums, avoiding unnecessary hospital emergency room use (and uncompensated care), and keeping our hospitals strong and our families healthy.

Improve Public Education - Chris Vaughn will work to:

  • Reduce class sizes and create incentives to attract new teachers, and keep the best and brightest teachers in the classroom.
  • Expand charter schools to give parents a direct stake in their children’s development and more involvement in their children's education.
  • Protect the HOPE Scholarships.

Ease Traffic Congestion - Chris Vaughn supports:

  • Comprehensive regional transportation planning, spearheaded at the state level,
  • Use of old railways for light rail commuter lines, and
  • More sidewalks in our neighborhoods and on state and county roads.

Reduce Property Taxes - Chris Vaughn will fight to reduce property taxes for all citizens. Chris will work to reform the property tax assessment system so that the county government doesn't give you a back-door tax increase by increasing the assessed value of your property.

Protect Livable Neighborhoods - Chris Vaughn understands that change is a given; that's why we need to manage and even facilitate change so that our Intown neighborhoods exhibit a high quality of life. Chris will stand on the side of his neighbors and fight to protect the character of our communities and support sustainable growth.

Stop Insider Deals and Corruption - Chris Vaughn's tough new Ethics Plan requires full disclosure of business deals by elected officials and their family members, prohibits state officials and their family members from receiving state government contracts, and bans lobbying by former state officials for 3 years and by former legislators for 5 years.

Support Diversity and Rebuff Extremists - Chris Vaughn respects the fact that State House District 59 is full of diverse communities, and he enjoys meeting all of the great citizens that make our communities the strong and vibrant neighborhoods they are. Chris will fight to protect human rights for all Georgians, and will stand steadfast in support of equal rights for all, regardless of race, gender, age, or sexual orientation.
